☆ 3。5 ☆I sadly enjoyed this one less than Fellowship of The Ring, and that's mainly because of the second half with Sam and Frodo that felt like it dragged on for so long that it almost put me in a bit of a reading slump。 There was also an over abundance of landscape descriptions in the second half, and while beautifully written, I've read too many of them at this point。 But thankfully the first half of this book was really great, I love the boyband of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, their banter wa ☆ 3。5 ☆I sadly enjoyed this one less than Fellowship of The Ring, and that's mainly because of the second half with Sam and Frodo that felt like it dragged on for so long that it almost put me in a bit of a reading slump。 There was also an over abundance of landscape descriptions in the second half, and while beautifully written, I've read too many of them at this point。 But thankfully the first half of this book was really great, I love the boyband of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, their banter was great and the friendship between Legolas and Gimli warmed my heart。 The riders of Rohan were also super cool to read about, although the battle of Helm's Deep left a bit to be desired since it's a true spectacle in the movie and one of my favourite scenes。 I find it hard to rate books at times, especially a book like this which has immense praise for it, but my rating is based on my enjoyment and not its objective quality。 I want to reread the books again in the future, so hopefully I'll enjoy this one more next time。 。。。more

Note: This is specifically a review for the audiobook edition of The Two Towers as read by Andy Serkis。It is impossible for me to be objective about this review (unlike my other book reviews, which should obviously be taken as fact and not subjective opinion)。 Or, to be more specific, it is impossible for me to judge The Two Towers on it's own merit。 Not only did I see The Lord of the Rings trilogy before I read the books (I was already a fan of The Hobbit and had attempted to read LotR, but nev Note: This is specifically a review for the audiobook edition of The Two Towers as read by Andy Serkis。It is impossible for me to be objective about this review (unlike my other book reviews, which should obviously be taken as fact and not subjective opinion)。 Or, to be more specific, it is impossible for me to judge The Two Towers on it's own merit。 Not only did I see The Lord of the Rings trilogy before I read the books (I was already a fan of The Hobbit and had attempted to read LotR, but never made it past the council of Elrond until a decade after the films came out)。 The LotR films hold a very special place for me in the same way Star Wars once did or The Hobbit book still does。 I have been working my way through Andy Serkis' wonderful narration of the stories about the Bagginses。 I don't know if I ever would have found a love for the LotR novels if it weren't for these audiobooks。 Serkis' narration brings to me exactly what makes The Hobbit (book) and LotR (extended edition films) so special to me - in a word, comfort (much like a hobbit hole)。 While I don't expect everyone to experience the sheer joy I do when Andy Serkis reads these books, he is a very dynamic narrator and does a wonderful job regardless of your relationship to Middle Earth。 His readings of these 4 books will keep me company for many years to come - to be pulled out whenever I need just what these audiobooks will give me most。。。comfort and contentedness。 。。。more

I originally read this many years ago, 2012 I think。 Reading this again meant so much more to me this time around。 While I gave The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings #1) a well-deserved 5 rating, this book surpasses that book。 Also, The Fellowship of the Ring ends with a "cliff hanger," which forced me to immediately start Book 3: The Return of the King。 Take your time and enjoy the journey。 I originally read this many years ago, 2012 I think。 Reading this again meant so much more to me this time around。 While I gave The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings #1) a well-deserved 5 rating, this book surpasses that book。 Also, The Fellowship of the Ring ends with a "cliff hanger," which forced me to immediately start Book 3: The Return of the King。 Take your time and enjoy the journey。 。。。more

I'll start with the cons: 1) Listening to an Orc battle is more tiresome than watching one。2) Having characters who like to tell stories means that the same story gets told over and over。3) There's a massive spider in this book and I don't like spiders。 I mean, I really don't like spiders。 I nearly lost my lunch during the very graphic details of the giant, evil, disgusting spider。And the pros: 1) Samwise Gamgee2) If there were nothing else, Andy Serkis's Treebeard would make the whole thing wor I'll start with the cons: 1) Listening to an Orc battle is more tiresome than watching one。2) Having characters who like to tell stories means that the same story gets told over and over。3) There's a massive spider in this book and I don't like spiders。 I mean, I really don't like spiders。 I nearly lost my lunch during the very graphic details of the giant, evil, disgusting spider。And the pros: 1) Samwise Gamgee2) If there were nothing else, Andy Serkis's Treebeard would make the whole thing worth doing。3) Swapping from Andy Serkis the narrator to Gollum and back again, over and over, is pure audiobook heaven。 。。。more

3。5 starsSo I read this in a different way。 I think I made the right choice by doing so。 Since this second part of The Lord of the Rings is divided in Book Three (following Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin) and Book Four (following Frodo and Sam) I read one chapter of book three and then one chapter of book four because I don't really like the Frodo and Sam part of the journey。 I find it dull and extensive。 This way of reading really helped me and improved the rating so I do su 3。5 starsSo I read this in a different way。 I think I made the right choice by doing so。 Since this second part of The Lord of the Rings is divided in Book Three (following Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin) and Book Four (following Frodo and Sam) I read one chapter of book three and then one chapter of book four because I don't really like the Frodo and Sam part of the journey。 I find it dull and extensive。 This way of reading really helped me and improved the rating so I do suggest it。 I love their adventures and the writing is witty and fun and easy to read but sometimes boring and a bit repetitive。 My favorite battle happened which is the one at Helm's Deep。 Now Gandalf and Pippin are off to Minas Tirith and Sam is trying to save Frodo from the Orcs。The movie changed the part about Gollum planting the seed of distrust into Frodo's heart and Sam leaving him。 That did not actually happen。 It was different in the book。 Sam never left his master。 That was the thing I really liked。 Though for a moment I got scared that Sam was the ring- bearer。 I am not a big fan of Samwise Gamgee and never will be。 He just annoys me。 Overall I will finish LOTR with the last part The Return of the King in September and I am excited for it。 。。。more

It has taken me a long time to get through this one… I’ve been reading other books alongside this one in fairness but to be completely honest I’ve not enjoyed this one half as much as the hobbit and fellowship。 Controversial I know! They are a classic and I do love the overall story so I want to read them and tick them off my book bucket list, I’m going to have a little break and read a couple of other books before starting Return of the King so I have fresh eyes for the story but I will make it to Mordor!! 。。。more

Kind of underwhelming if I’m being honest! I still enjoyed it but I didn’t like the lack of bouncing back and forth。 First time I had read it and half the book is with one set of characters, half is with the other set。 So I think the narrative structure oddly knocked it down for me。 Nice cliffhanger ending though! 7/10

One of the things I will have to come to terms with is I am of a different generation。I am a product of George R。R。 Martin, Brandon Sanderson, Marie Lu, etc。 There's just no way I can read this from a plot point of view, and tell myself Tolkien was the best。 One of the things I will have to come to terms with is I am of a different generation。I am a product of George R。R。 Martin, Brandon Sanderson, Marie Lu, etc。 There's just no way I can read this from a plot point of view, and tell myself Tolkien was the best。 。。。more

This is when Andy Serkis really shines。 His orc voices are introduced and his Gollum is familiar but with his, what, 20 years of additional experience? Extremely well done and polished。Very entertaining。 Absolutely epic。

This book is a great build up for what’s to come in the last one, whilst also having quite a lot of action itself。 Very entertaining to read, like the first!

An adventurous story written in a way that has you gripping the pages as you follow Strider, Legolas and Gimli for a portion then Frodo and Sam for another。 With a surprise around this…Onward to the last book of the trilogy!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was an odd choice for Tolkien to design this book by separating Frodo and Sam’s story from everyone else’s narrative——including Gandalf the White, Aragorn, Pippin, Merry, etc。 Still, it all contributes to satisfaction, even if it is a bridge to the final chapter。 Even as a fan of the movies, reading these books is an exciting and surprising experience; there are many differences to add to the appeal and suspense。 I respect Tolkien for the environmentalism he explores in this book。 The subject It was an odd choice for Tolkien to design this book by separating Frodo and Sam’s story from everyone else’s narrative——including Gandalf the White, Aragorn, Pippin, Merry, etc。 Still, it all contributes to satisfaction, even if it is a bridge to the final chapter。 Even as a fan of the movies, reading these books is an exciting and surprising experience; there are many differences to add to the appeal and suspense。 I respect Tolkien for the environmentalism he explores in this book。 The subject is not as significant in the movie, but Tolkien shows depth in how he treats the Ents and their background。 Treebeard’s stories to Pippin and Merry are moving and revealing in their despair。 On the surface, the statue of the fallen king’s head with flowers is a memorial, but it also represents the idea of hope within harsh times。 Nature exudes growth while war represents decay。 As for other themes, readers experience the loss of Boromir, and it comes back up in the second half when Frodo and Sam meet Faramir。 The irony is how Frodo and Sam do not know of Boromir’s death due to their departure from the Fellowship。 Earlier, Faramir found Boromir’s body in a boat。 Then, there is a growing sense of friendship between Frodo and Sam。 The book’s final challenge for the duo is Shelob, which is mainly to test Sam’s courage and strength。 Based on these paragraphs alone, I could write about this for a while。 However, I do not want to repeat myself or summarize heavily。 Considering the material I am reading, it is a lot to digest。 Some details I will probably forget, but the journey is what matters。 It is a beautiful and emotional one。 。。。more

I debated a long time between a four and a five for The Two Towers。 I felt like this book was a lot more enjoyable than The Fellowship of the Ring and was just a better paced book in general。 In particular I felt the first half was very well paced, while things did slow down quite a bit for the second half when we're only focused on Frodo, Sam, and Gollum's journey。The Two Towers picks up from where we left the first book。 Frodo and Sam have left the Fellowship and while they are doing that Boro I debated a long time between a four and a five for The Two Towers。 I felt like this book was a lot more enjoyable than The Fellowship of the Ring and was just a better paced book in general。 In particular I felt the first half was very well paced, while things did slow down quite a bit for the second half when we're only focused on Frodo, Sam, and Gollum's journey。The Two Towers picks up from where we left the first book。 Frodo and Sam have left the Fellowship and while they are doing that Boromir dies attempting to protect Merry and Pippin, who are taken captive by orcs。 This sequence of events leaves Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli uncertain of what to do, but they decide to chase after Merry and Pippin in attempt to rescue them。 The first half of the book follows this course of events, while the second follows Frodo and Sam as they try to reach Mordor to destroy the one ring。 As I said the first half is paced rather well, with a lot of things going on in that half。 The second slows down considerably, and while we don't quite get to the level that Fellowship of the Ring did with nothing going on, it's definitely slower。 I'm not a huge fan of the interactions with Gollum and trying to have him continue to help them since he's pretty obviously up to no good through it all。 He may have some internal conflict, but it's pretty clear which side is stronger。 Plus you have Sam being stupid most of the time in his interactions with Gollum。 I get that Sam doesn't trust him, but you'd think that treating him a bit better would help the situation a lot more than being a jerk all the time。Anyhow, I can say that this book is much better than the first in the series, but still has some parts that I wasn't the biggest fan of。 If the whole book was like the first half, then I think it would be even higher, but it wasn't。 We'll see where Return of the King lands。 。。。more

Picking off right where Fellowship left off, Merry and Pippin were kidnapped by a horde of orcs, Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn are hot on their tail, and Sam and Frodo are making their duo journey to the shadows of Mordor。 I love how the book breaks up the stories, so you get a taste of everyone's journey。My favorite of the three journeys is Frodo and Sam's。 The two encounter Gollum, which has to be one of the most interesting creatures。 He looks like a starved, dying child with hair that is tangl Picking off right where Fellowship left off, Merry and Pippin were kidnapped by a horde of orcs, Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn are hot on their tail, and Sam and Frodo are making their duo journey to the shadows of Mordor。 I love how the book breaks up the stories, so you get a taste of everyone's journey。My favorite of the three journeys is Frodo and Sam's。 The two encounter Gollum, which has to be one of the most interesting creatures。 He looks like a starved, dying child with hair that is tangled like weeds, and giant moon-like eyes。 He has two personalities, a very humble, terrified side that is happy to please, and a detestable side that will do anything, even murder to get his hands on "the precious。" The precious being the ring Frodo carries, of course! What I love about their journey, is Frodo's relationship with Gollum, which he calls Smeagol。 Smeagol is Gollum's original name, back 100s of years ago when Gollum was a hobbit much like Sam and Frodo。 The One Ring twisted him, and gave him a long lifespan! We see Frodo's initial disgust of the creature, and then his pity and kindness toward him。 Frodo really does seem to care for Smeagol, which I admire in him。 Frodo and Sam could just kill him, or try to lose him, but the two need Smeagol because he knows a way to get them into Mordor。The Merry and Pippin story arc was my least favorite。 The two encounter a giant talking tree creature that talks veeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrry slooooooooowwwwwwwllllly。。。ugh! It drives me insane。 I hate the long drawn out tales of the ents, the large tree creatures。 They are just way too long and unnecessary。 I would have gouged my ears out or have simply fallen asleep listening to their tale。。。their fight against Saruman at Isengard was also anti-climactic。 They just win without a casualty? Ok。。。this big terrifying wizard doesn't even put up a fight? Can't he cast fireballs from his tall tower and set them ablaze? It makes no sense。Lastly, the story of Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn is an interesting one because they run into an old friend。 It is kind of silly how blind they are to him。 What's up with that? It just goes to show how we do not see reality staring at us in the face sometimes。。。they have an enticing battle at Helm's Deep, which has some comedic moments because Gimli and Legolas have a competition of how many orcs they can slay。 Legolas is kind of a gentle snob, and Gimli is a hardheaded brute。 The two are complete opposites, but they create a deep bond for one another。 It really is quite the bromance。Speaking of bromance, Sam and Frodo have quite the bromance too。 Maybe if the book was written recently, Sam might even have a mancrush on Frodo。 The way Sam looks up to Frodo, it is like he just stares at him with blissful eyes。 Honestly, there could have been a romantic kissing scene on the mountainous path before they enter the cave。 Missed opportunity! All in all, I give The Two Towers 5 stars! Much better than the first。 The characters stories have really been built。 The action is exciting。 The world-building Tolkien does is incredible。 Sincerely recommend this book! After reading The Fellowship of the Ring of course! 。。。more
